Welcome to

North East Community Workshop Ltd.

The Director's Letter

Dear Reader,

I would like to invite you to read and have a look at all the information which the Workshop staff and I have compiled to help you find out about North East Community Workshop Ltd.

North East Community Workshop Ltd. was formed in March 2013 for people who have a learning disability as a response to an unmet need for a work related service in Aberdeen.

We provide a unique day service which offers training in work related skills and more recently, arts/crafts. Socialisation, fun time activities such as karaoke, dance, all in a friendly and supportive environment. People are supported to identify and to achieve their work and leisure time related goals and full potential.

We also offer employment related training, basic education and computer skills. We are happy for people to discuss how their new found skills could be used in a work environment. The Workshop can offer up to twelve placements in a day with three permanent and one relief members of staff.

The service is provided at 35 Holland Street, Aberdeen, a small detached building which offers a large day room, a small kitchen, male and female toilets, an office, and small store. The premises are wheelchair accessible, and we have a small private car park.

At the request of people who attend The Workshop, our ‘uniforms’ are polo neck shirts, in a variety of colours with the company logo. (The Workshop supplies these)

We use a number of different means of communication and we offer a variety of training methods. We try very hard to offer a wide range of training opportunities, including: weighing and packaging of bird seed and dog treats, we do paper shredding, we recycle aluminium cans and any other new challenge that may come along.

We recently set up a small golf tee enterprise, involving the purchase of golf tees etc. wholesale, packaging and selling them onto local golf clubs. (So far, we have supplied to 8 different golf clubs) This has proven to be a favourite venture, with most people within the workshop being involved, however, in order to grow this enterprise, we need to identify someone who enjoys golf and has contact with local golf clubs and/or regular players of golf.

We currently have some vacancies at The Workshop and we would be interested in receiving referrals for people with learning disabilities who are to be leaving school or from people who would like to try something new. Sometimes, people ‘like to work’ at least some of their time.

If you (the reader) or someone who you know may be interested in any part of our services, please contact The Manager at 35 Holland St. by calling on 01224 649994

Yours sincerely
