WHAT NECW ARE GOOD AT DOING?
* The Manager, Staff and The Directors of NECW have considerable knowledge, experience and qualifications in the field of disability. Supporting people to learn work related skills is a particular interest. Staff update and develop their training on an ongoing basis.
* The Workshop at 35 Holland Street, Aberdeen is in a central location. It is a small detached unit (which is on one level) and can accommodate 12 people at a time. It provides a safe and relaxed environment for people to be in.
* NECW provides a unique Work-Related skills service that can accommodate each individual’s particular training needs.
* There is a great atmosphere within the workshop and it is important that everyone who works and attends are happy and have fun.
* The Workshop provides people with the opportunity to develop individual, work-related skills in a safe and stimulating environment. These skills are transferable to real work settings.
* Training at The Workshop is formally acknowledged, with clients gaining certificates for each level of training subject they achieve.
* Staff at the workshop appreciate that everyone learns differently and therefore adopt different communication styles for each individual.
* The workshop has proved to be good for helping school leavers to make the transition from school into an adult environment where they learn to work as part of a team, have respect for each other and develop their independence.
* People who attend the workshop are involved as much as possible in deciding upon the routines, tasks, and developmental ideas. this helps to increase individual confidence and self-esteem.
* People who have attended the workshop for some years are especially good at supporting people who are less able or who are new to the workshop.
* Staff at The Workshop are concentrating on providing a greater range of practical tasks to do and are in contact with various businesses who can provide suitable materials which The workshop can batch and sell to the public.
* Staff liaise closely with family members, carers from other companies, social workers/care managers and with commissioners of services.
* Workshop Directors and Staff are more than happy to listen to any new ideas for positive change.
